Tylorstown v Cefn Coed match report

Tylorstown 32 Cefn Coed 14

Tylorstown returned to winning ways after the previous week ‘s narrow loss to league leaders Fairwater, with a comfortable win against bottom side Cefn Coed. From the start the tigers showed how they wanted to play the game by trying to run the ball at every opportunity. Early on in the game a great miss move in the backs allowed centre Jordan Williams to open the scoring with a great try, the conversion out wide being missed, 5-0 to the home team. The second-row pairing of Mathew Paul and Lukke Rees were causing mayhem in the Cefn Coed defence with rampaging runs. The home team again breeched the visitors whitewash when prop Aiden O’Donaghue went over in the corner from a catch and drive from a close-range lineout, with the differ cult conversion being missed from out wide, 10-0.

The scrums were being dominated by the bigger home team pack. Number 8 David Hefford showed his usual great hands in an attack that started in the Tylorstown 22 and was finally brought to a halt 5 metres from the Cefn Coed try line. The line out was a major source of possession for the home team and the next try came from that facet of the game. The catch and drive was implemented and Lee Arundel went over in the corner with Chris Harris kicking an excellent conversion making the score line 17-0. Just before half time Chris Harris increased the score to 20-0 with a penalty.

The second half continued much the same as the first, with the home team spending long periods in the visitor’s half. However, it was on one such attack that Cefn Coed scored their first points of the day. A mistake in midfield when Tylorstown were attacking was pounced on by the Cefn Coed centre, the ball was shipped to the wing who scored a converted try bringing the score to 20-7.

Tylorstown’s next and bonus point try was again the result of strong forward play in the scrum, from 5 metres out scrum half Dylan Lewis picked up at the base of the scum and darted over for his 5 try of the season, the conversion being successful by Harris 27-7. The home team’s last try of the day was from the impressive second row Rees. He instinctively took a quick penalty 5 metres from the away team’s try line, using great footwork and a nice spin out of the tackle he forced his way over for an unconverted try, 32-7. Cefn Coed then scored a consolation try and conversion at the end of the game to bring the final score to 32-14 to the home team. An excellent team performance.
